Transcription: Jetpack Boost

Welcome back to the blog! In this post, I’ll be bringing you the sheet music to one of the less popular minigames in Club Penguin: Jetpack Boost.

For those of you that didn’t know, Jetpack Boost was the sequel to Jetpack Adventure. The simple game could only be played in the app version of Club Penguin, where it replaced the original game at the Beacon. Despite the similarity in names, the two games have some stark differences. In Jetpack Boost, the player has infinite fuel and flies continuously to the right (only controlling their vertical position on the screen). Because there’s no fuel meter, one crash ends the game immediately, but the player can pick up Gary’s Robot Penguins which will take the hit for them.

As far as I know, the game’s music wasn’t used anywhere else. This may be because, unlike most pieces from Club Penguin, it doesn’t loop very well. By flying, the player would charge their jetpack eventually allowing them to activate turbo mode. Turbo mode had a different theme which would replace the main theme.

When coming out of turbo mode, the main theme would simply start from the beginning again, so it was uncommon to hear the piece the whole way through in game.

While it’s not the biggest in terms of parts, this is the longest piece that I’ve transcribed to date with 65 bars and lasting two and a half minutes. The song is mostly lead by the strings with just a bit of support from the brass from time to time. Here’s a video of the score being played by Noteflight:

You may have noticed that the piece is split into several clear sections. While the rehearsal letters I entered in the score don’t show up in the following video, you should still be able to figure them out from the dynamic and melody changes. Here’s a piano tutorial by Synthesia:

That about does it for this post. Let me know which song you’d like to see next in the comments, and until next time,
