If you’ve ever been to the Box Dimension, you may have found yourself wondering what’s inside all the boxes. Are they empty, or do they contain some sort of secret? After years of speculation, the Club Penguin Team finally revealed the answer during the April Fools’ Party of 2011, revealing that the boxes are actually gateways to other dimensions (such as the desert dimension, doodle dimension and space dimension).

But not all of the boxes contain a different dimension; in fact, we’ve only discovered 10 boxes that do! We’ve discovered Many more boxes that do completely different things, from shattering upon being touched to actually reversing gravity! In this post, I’m going to show you the different types of boxes that were revealed to exist in the Box Dimension through the minigame Puffle Launch.

The first new type of box that we’re introduced to has the ability to teleport anything that enters it. These boxes seem to be connected in pairs, as the same two boxes will always teleport to each other (as you can see above). Ten of these boxes also appeared in the Lighthouse during the April Fools’ Parties of 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011, however one of the boxes was linked to two others – causing anything that entered it to be duplicated – while another one somehow removed any clones that entered it.

We’re also introduced to exploding boxes. Upon being touched, these boxes actually burst releasing a shower of fireworks, but it seems that they can reform with more fireworks shortly after being ‘activated’.

Shape-shifting boxes also exist. Like the unofficial name suggests, these boxes can change shape when touched. In Puffle Launch, they can transform between a box, sphere and square-based pyramid, but it wouldn’t surprise me if they can morph into other shapes, too.

Perhaps the most powerful boxes are the gravity-changing boxes we see a level later. These boxes have a large green arrow on them that points to the direction of gravity in the dimension. If they’re hit, this arrow will spin around and therefore readjust the gravity of the dimension. It appears that all these boxes are somehow connected as if the arrow on one is changed, then all the others will change, too.

These boxes only seem to work in the Box Dimension, as one appeared at the Ski Village during the April Fools’ Parties of 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2011 but, though the arrow spinned, the gravity on the island wouldn’t change. It’s also possible that these boxes always change the gravity in the Box Dimension, not the dimension that they’re in.

Fragile boxes are the next to be introduced. These boxes have visible cracks all over them and, when touched, crumble to pieces. One of these could be seen at the same April Fools’ Parties that the teleportation and gravity-changing boxes appeared at, in the Ski Village. Unlike the fragile boxes in Puffle Launch, however, this box could be reconstructed.

The last box in Puffle Launch that the player can actually interact with is a Russian doll style box. Like Russian dolls, each of these boxes contain a smaller, identical box (with the exception of the fifth one). Boxes just like this appeared at the Dock during the April Fools’ Parties of 2007 and 2009, too.

While these are the only boxes that the player could actually interact with in Puffle Launch, there were a few that just appeared in the background that we already knew about from April Fools’ Parties. This revealed that many, if not all, of the boxes that appeared at these parties somehow came from the Box Dimension.

Most of these were the band boxes. Six appeared in the background of level 34 of Puffle Launch and one more appeared in the Pizza Parlor during the four April Fools’ Parties that the other boxes also appeared in. These boxes appear to be somewhat sentient as they’re able to play the electric and classical guitars, tuba, maracas and snare drum whilst also being able to sing.

Of course, we also see the Box Dragon again, after it’s first (and only other) appearance during the April Fools’ Party of 2009. I’ve already done an entire post about this creature in the past, so for the sake of not repeating myself, you can check out the post here.

But that’s all I have time for in this post. There are many boxes that I didn’t cover, so if you would like to see another post like this one, let me know down in the comments – and until next time,

Maybe there’s not only boxes, but other creatures in the Box Dimension? We know Plok lives there, but are there any more orange Puffles?

Interesting question. We know that Orange Puffles originally came from the Orange Puffle Dimension and therefore, since the only known way to cross dimensions is to pass through the Box Dimension, must have crossed the dimension to get to Club Penguin. I wouldn’t put it past the fluffy little creatures to get lost in there. Orange Puffles also have a strong affinity with the dimension; it was their domain during Puffle Parties and the puffle poster even suggests that they may be able to travel there without a box portal; so it’s quite probable that the dimension feels homely to the puffles, and that some would have decided to make the dimension their home at some point.
