The ‘Night of the Living Sled’ series is a popular ‘horror film’ collection about a sentient toboggan that chases two penguins around the island of Club Penguin. The films were shown each year during the annual halloween parties, but one burning question still remains to this day, is it possible that the events in Night of the Living Sled (I, II and III) could have actually happened?

The easiest way that we can get answers on this topic is by watching the bloopers where we can see how much of the movie was actually staged and what the actors are like when they’re not in character. There’s one particularly important snippet of information that we can get from the bloopers: how the sled is controlled. We could already see from the film that the sled couldn’t have been played by a penguin in a costume as the costume would have been too slim, and while it is possible for green screens to have been used, the time that the film was made in would have made it nearly impossible to do anything more technical than change the backdrop.

Puppeteers could have been used, but the way the sled moves, turns to look at things and even ‘laughs’ imply that whatever’s controlling it is controlling it from where the sled is standing – or more likely, the sled is actually controlling itself. Just because the movie is staged doesn’t mean that it couldn’t have been based off of true events – and it wouldn’t be the first time that seemingly fictional media turned out to be true. The Penguins that Time Forgot turned out to have actually happened as well.

That could mean that the sled we see in the films is actually a living sled and that it’s the same living sled that once chased those two poor penguins up and down the island.
Why would an evil sled star in a movie, though? The answer’s simpler than you would think. In the movies, the sled’s motives are never revealed – in fact we have no reason to believe that the sled has ever done anything wrong, it can’t talk and has very limited use of body making it hard for it to communicate. I would believe that the sled wasn’t evil in the first place, rather, everyone just ran from it because it was unnatural.

So where’s the proof? How do I know that Night of the Living Sled was more than just a movie? I found the secret lair where it was created. During the Halloween Parties of 2008, 2009 and 2011, this room was accessible to penguins who owned a rad scientist costume:

And, as you can see, it looks remarkably similar to the evil scientist’s lair in Night of the Living Sled:

What’s more, this room had a safety measure on it that disallowed anyone other than mad scientists into the lab; to open the door, you need to find the mysteriously glowing green candle and then to actually enter the lab, you need to own the Rad Scientist Costume.

Of course, not only would a filming company not need such precautions but they wouldn’t be able to put them in place. How the candle glows with ghostly, green energy is a secret to anyone who doesn’t study ghosts – so who made it? Who was the mad scientist that originally brought the sled to life? Gary’s great uncle. Gariwald VIII the Contraption Chap.

If you don’t know the story, Gariwald went missing one Halloween while studying ectoplasmic phenomena (in other words, ghosts). Because of this, his mansion was deemed haunted and penguins were advised to keep out of it. Later, it was revealed that Gariwald actually transformed himself into a ghost using his Ghostmatron so that he could better study the creatures. Who would be more suited to create a candle with ghostly energy than someone who studies them?

And the timing lines up perfectly. Gariwald would have still been studying ghosts as a regular penguin around the time that silent movies were starting to take off. It makes sense that Gariwald might have experimented with trapping ghosts in regular objects such as toboggans.

So, the question remains: is the living sled still out there? Sadly, I have reason to believe that at some point, the living sled had the life taken out of it. Taking a look in Gariwald’s attic we can see, although hidden at the back nearly out of sight, the sled that once roamed freely around the island converted into nothing but a regular toboggan.

Once again, this aligns with my theory. Once Gariwald was done with experimenting on the sled, it’s job was done and Gariwald could free the spirit that was trapped inside it. Unfortunately, before he could do so it chased a few penguins around the island and even starred in a movie.
But what do you think? Does this theory make sense, or is it too much of a leap to believe that Gary’s great uncle created the living sled? Perhaps it’s why Gary liked the movies so much… let me know your thoughts down below and, as always,

If the sled has been un-ghosted, then it could be at least put to good use on the Ski Hill.
Maybe that’s where the Dark Sled item came from.
